Somboon Lertsuwannaroj EVP
Some are born great, some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrust upon them.
William Shakespeare –
Not many people are called to their life’s work at an early age. A curious and motivated undergraduate in Chulalongkorn’s prestigious Faculty of Engineering, Somboon served as the President of the Voluntary Engineering Student Camp (VESC). During this time, Somboon was deeply touched by a situation in the north of Thailand. Faced with an infrastructure dilemma that hindered traffic and nearly crippled local commerce; the community was in dire need of a bridge. In response, Somboon organized over 250 student volunteers and raised 1.3 million baht to develop and construct the concrete bridge that would alter the community’s way of life.
As a career professional, Somboon oversaw the award-winning development of the 84 MW Lopburi Solar Project. Since the project’s infancy until its commissioning, his scope of work was all-encompassing and his dedication…unmatched. From PPA discussion and application, EPC negotiations and feasibility studies, to energy yield calculations, technology assessments, and overall development, Somboon steered the project towards success.
His initiative led to the project’s registration with UNFCC under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program. The result is a “TGO Crown Standard Award” project management program that reduces carbon emission and enhances the local community with supporting programs.
Somboon leads a young, active business development team and is responsible for IES’ growth strategy. His unconventional approach and dynamic business model benefits shareholders and grassroots stakeholders alike. He also heads the growth of IES’ Japanese energy business in the same comprehensive capacity.
