On Friday, August 7th 2015, at the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vientiane, Lao PDR; Impact Energy Asia Limited (IEA), an affiliated company of Impact Electrons Siam (IES), signed a landmark Project Development Agreement (PDA) for a 600 MW Monsoon Wind Power Project with Government of Laos (GOL) represented by Dr. KhamlienPholsena (Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment).

Monsoon Wind Power Project will be Asean’s largest wind farm and the first wind power development in Lao PDR. With a total capacity of 600 MW, the project will occupy an area of 68,000 hectares (400,000 rai) in Sekong and Attapeu provinces which enjoy promising wind resource with an altitude of 1,200 m above sea level.

The project’s estimated cost is USD 1,500 million where GOL reserves the right to participate as a shareholder of the project up to 10 percent. The generated power is expected to play an important role in supporting the ASEAN power grid policy. About 95% of the power is expected to be sold to Asean market, mainly Thailand and neighboring members.

Importantly, the project will be spurring much needed infrastructure growth in Laos such as roads, bridges, power grids and telecommunication networks. Benefits coming to the local inhabitants will be sizeable as employment will provide income for the communities. The project will create hundreds of jobs at the site while generating thousands more in related fields, thus allowing Laos to progress and develop further by using a green energy model.
